Memory is a wonderful thing, if you don't have to, uh, deal with the past.

Jesse:

Katherine Ann Watson

Monday, 12 September 2011

Since Pretty Woman had brought her name high, how I love her character most here.

---Wellesley College, 1950s---

Katherine Watson: Since your wedding, you've missed six classes, a paper and your midterm.
Betty Warren: I was on my honeymoon and then I had to set up house. What does she expect?
Katherine Watson: Attendance.
Connie Baker: [timidly] Most of the faculty turn their heads when the married students miss a class or two.
Katherine Watson: Well then why not get married as freshman? That way you could graduate without actually ever stepping foot on campus.
Betty Warren: Don't disregard our traditions just because you're subversive.
Katherine Watson: Don't disrespect this class just because you're married.
Betty Warren: Don't disrespect me just because you're not.
Katherine Watson: Come to class, do the work, or I'll fail you.
Betty Warren: If you fail me, there will be consequences.
Katherine Watson: Are you threatening me?
Betty Warren: I'm educating you.
Katherine Watson: That's *my* job.

Celine:
I hate that the media, you know, they are trying to control our minds.

Jesse:
The media?

Celine:
Yeah, the media. You know it‘s very subtle, but you know, it‘s a new form of fascism.

Catherine of Aragon (1485 - 1536)

Tuesday, 18 May 2010

Katherine of Aragon: (to Anne and Mary)
"I am Katherine, Queen of England, the King's one true wife and mother of the heir to the throne. Beloved of the people, and beloved of a King you have bewitched."

Katherine of Aragon: (to Anne)
"Let me tell you this. You want me to lie before God, and admit my first marriage was consummated? Well, it was not. You want me to retire, and withdraw my daughter's claim as sole rightful heir to the throne? Well, I shall not. Not in a thousand years. Not if you rack me within an inch of my life. So, I hope you have the belly for a fight, Anne Boleyn, because I'll fight you, every inch of the way."

Her Life
Catherine of Aragon was born into a family of kings and queens and was destined to become one herself. She was betrothed since she was about four years old to the future king of England. She fulfilled this destiny, but became victim of Henry VIII's inability to produce a male heir. For this reason, she was removed from her throne and her marriage annulled. Although, maybe not the most memorable of Henry VIII's wives, she certainly had left a mark on history.

Catherine of Aragon had anything but a typical childhood. Catherine of Aragon was born on December 16, 1485 in Alcala de Henares, Spain. She was the daughter of Queen Isabella of Castile and mighty King Ferdinand of Aragon. Catherine was the youngest of five children, the others being Isabella, Juan, Juana, and Maria. Catherine's childhood experiences were quite fascinating. She witnessed the surrender of the Moors in Granada and Columbus' first voyage to the New World. Also Catherine was able to choose her own badge, which consisted of a pomegranate. This ends up being quite appropriate, because the fruit is hard on the outside, which symbolized Catherine's tough attitude and was soft on the inside, which symbolized fertility.

Catherine received an education typical of women in the fifteenth century. She was taught religion, housewife skills, and literacy in Spanish and Latin. She was a well-read child and she watched her parents deal with diplomatic and militaristic issues. In 1489, arrangements were made between Spain and England that betrothed Catherine of Aragon to Arthur, Prince of Wales, who was next in line to receive the English crown. This betrothal was made in order to keep the peace between two of the most powerful nations of Europe.

Tragedy struck the family in 1498 when Catherine's sister, Isabella, Queen of Portugal, died in childbirth. Although this tragedy hurt the royal family of Spain, in 1501, Catherine left Spain for England to marry Prince Arthur. They were married on November 14, 1501. The marriage was short because Arthur had died on April 2, 1502.

Her first marriage created much debate on whether or not it was consummated, because Catherine agreed to a second marriage to Arthur's brother, Henry VIII. Financial matters dealing with Catherine's dowry and King Henry VII kept the two from marrying until the king's death on April 21, 1509. Catherine and Henry VIII were married on June 11th, 1509. Henry was then crowned on June 24th, which made Catherine, Queen of England.

Catherine was very much an ideal queen. She was supportive of her husband, and like him, she enjoyed music and dance. As queen, Catherine managed the royal household, cared for Henry's linen and wardrobe, ran her own estates, and often supervised in royal business. She also took time and effort to provide the poor with money, clothes, food, and fuel in the winter. She was the only person Henry could confide to in the first few years of their marriage. For the first five years of their marriage, Catherine acted as the Spanish ambassador to England quite successfully on her own. She held off a Scottish rebellion in England while King Henry was off to war in France.

Queen Catherine bore six children, only one of whom had survived. This was Princess Mary, who would later become Queen Mary I of England also known as "Bloody Mary". The birth of her daughter, was a time of joy for Catherine, but her father, King Ferdinand of Spain had passed soon after. Henry was obsessed with producing a male heir to the throne in order to continue the Tudor dynasty. It became evident to Henry that Catherine would not be able to give him a son. Consequently, Henry tried to secure an annulment of his marriage with Catherine from Pope Clement VII. Catherine was initially given the opportunity to leave Henry VIII peacefully by living out her years in a nunnery. She chose to fight it out in the courts, which ruled against her. Had Catherine acted differently, the religious reformation would have been delayed or might not have come to England at all. The pope would not agree to the annulment so Henry decided to resolve his dilemma by having the archbishop of Canterbury declare his marriage with Catherine null and void on March 30, 1534. Henry then took Anne Boleyn as his new queen. Henry VIII had split away from the Catholic Church and formed the Church of England, and put himself as the head of the church.

Catherine lived out her life at Kimbolton, secluded from Henry and her daughter, Mary. Catherine died on January 7, 1536, at the age of fifty.

Catherine of Aragon had changed the course of history. Had it not been for her, the Protestant Reformation might not have occurred in England. Although, many might think that it was unfortunate for Catherine that Henry had their marriage annulled, it was lucky for her that she did not suffer the same fate as Anne Boleyn and Katherine Howard. And her daughter Mary, did become Queen of England.

Can't see it, but can feel it

"Love is always patient and kind. It is never jealous. Love is never boastful or conceted. It is never rude or selfish. It does not take pleasure in other peoples sins, but delights in the truth. It is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope, and to eudure whatever comes."

Landon: Jamie, I'm trying here, OK? Maybe... maybe I miss spending time with you. Maybe you inspire me.
Jamie: Sounds like bull.
Landon: Which part?
Jamie: All of it.
Landon: Well it's not!
Jamie: Prove it.

Jamie: [after she and Landon keep switching the radio station] Forty-two.
Landon: "Forty-two", what do you-what do you mean "forty-two"?
Jamie: Forty-two is "Befriend somebody I don't like". It's a to-do list I have.
Landon: What, like getting a new personality?
Jamie: Spend a year in the Peace Corps, make a medical discovery...
Landon: That's ambitious.
Jamie: ...Be in two places at once, get a tattoo.
Landon: What's number one?
Jamie: I'd tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.

Jamie: You’re acting like a crazy person, what's going on?
Landon: Right now, you're straddling the state line.
Jamie: OK...
Landon: You're in two places at once.

Landon: So, what's your number one?
Jamie: To marry in the church my mother grew up. It's where my parents were married.

Inconsistency pt. II

Saturday, 16 May 2009

Bahkan penulis sekaliber Indonesia Andrea Hirata pun ngga pernah gue baca! Hahaha. Yeah, whatever it'll be said, I enjoy it.

A Walk to Remember ketimbang filmnya, tapi buktinya saking tergila-gilanya sama tuh buku, gue nonton sampe belasan kali tuh filmnya.

Tadi gue nonton sama Kak Galuh, gara-gara gue ngajak dia nonton setelah kita ngobrol tentang Freemason.

Tapi, mendengar si Dakota Fanning bakal main di yg New Moon, membuat penasaran gue muncul supaya nonton. Akh!

Termasuk Catherine the Great, wow.

Hoahm. Gue ngantuk, kita lanjutin kapan-kapan aja ya pembahasannya. Haha

The Other Boleyn Girl

Tuesday, 16 December 2008

Other movie of one of my-totally-actress besides Dakota Fanning, Scarlett Johansson.

We watched Awake, and then she's awake

Thursday, 2 October 2008

Yesterday I was just had a time to watched movie with my sisters. And we got Awake for that time. Well I had a big expectation because in the poster noted that it was a thriller. But my expectation helped by the way of the stars played. Not the scariest but how they operated Clayton tickled me. Damn I just fooled by Sam and Jack who were acted clearly. Never imagined that they were bad at first, right. They got it and it's a good movie. Hayden looks like a child, handsomeeeee(everyone admits it) but his face is mamababes hadoh2. And the silly was what my sister said about this movie, she told me when we were going out of studio.

"Well, one thing that I got, listen to your Mom..." she smiled while talked to me and my other sister.

I laughed and replied, "Oh God, You just had realized?" (actually I laughed at her).

Next I'm waiting for Blueberry Nights. No no not only because its story but I want to see how Norah Jones plays at the movie. Ggrooooooookk. One day a looooong time ago when I was a child and started learn how to see the way people live, she ever got minus in my eyes because her attitude. It was in the mass media yaa. That's why I want to know about her deeply.
Tak kenal maka tak sayang toh heheee.

Woohoooo, I got it finished! Hehe, finally this Pride & Prejudice closing all the books to be read at the holiday. A little bit relieve because I was so anxious of it, afraid that this would not be finished until the end of the holiday. But I also excited of the ending. Woooooooo even it's really easy to be guess, but to know that this will be come true is need a looooooooong time. Hehe. You know, I love Darcy. Yea, I guess everybody will be fascinated with Bingley than Darcy right. But I do not know I just not too interested with him. He seems too perfect and he got the perfect one, Jane, so not challenging hehe. Darcy looks terrible at the first time because people judge him from the outside about his pride, we do not know the truth about him. And Elizabeth even though her prejudice always makes her into troubles but see, in a row of the age, maturity will comes out by itself. Can not wait to watch the movie, hehe padahal filmnya udah lama bgt beredar. Be anxious to find out the hilarious Bennet Family. Yauweslah yo, see you

Message in A Bottle

Thursday, 15 May 2008

One of my favourite authors. Menurut gue Sparks bener-bener brilian. Hehe. Hahaha mulai curiga gue. Jujur gue memang belum tahu secara mendalam mengenai Nicholas Sparks. Tapi karya-karya yg dia bikin selama ini baru 3 yg gue baca, setelah A Walk to Remember, trus The Notebook, dan ini Message in a Bottle yg filmnya bikin gue meneteskan air mata untuk yg kesekian kalinya menonton film ini! Haha. Eh ngga sih, baru 2 kali nonton sih hehe. Sebenernya ada satu lagi bukunya di rumah, A Bend in The Road apa kalo ga salah, kayak judulnya Boys II Men yah hehe. Pas gue liat “Based on the novel by NICHOLAS SPARKS…” wuaaaaaa! Tapi gue lupa apa. Gue mulai berspekulasi macam2 mengingat2 apa aja karyanya Sparks. A Walk to Remember? Ngga mungkin. Mana ada pesawat. The Notebook. Ahh ngga ah kayaknya. Message in a bottle. Nahh, kayaknya nih. Dan pas gue terus ngikutin nih film, bener aja, ada adegan yg sangat gue inget ketika gue pertama kali menonton, yaitu pas si Theresa lari pagi tur pelabuhan dengan baju yg berkeringat trus dia menemukan BOTOL! Hahaha. Bukan, bukan jin botol. Sangat jelas bukan kalau itu Message in a bottle? Iyalah, apalagi? Masa notebook in a bottle? Mana muat! Haha ngga lucu. Gue terus terhanyut sm tuh film sampe-sampe gue melupakan Sonny Dwi Kuncoro. Hehehe. Hahaha gampang terinspirasi! Akhirnya guna menambah stimulan akan rasa nasionalisme gue, tiap iklan, gue ganti deh tuh ke Thomas Cup. Hah? Sekarang yg gue liat si Sonny lagi unggul. Hhhff tenanglah gua. Hehe. Gue sangat suka dengan ini cerita kenapa? Karena sangat berharga banget buat diambil pelajaran. Tsssaahh. Beneran. Ckckck. Haha. Dan gue mulai berkaca-kaca pas adegan Garret berantem sm Doug, ayahnya di depan restoran. Ih gila yah, orangtua tuh emang bener-bener deh, instingnya kuat ;) dan sedih banget pas Garret lagi nolong orang di tengah laut pas dia berlayar lagi badai-badainya. Setelah itu diketahui bahwa, dia meninggal. Aaaaaahh tragis. Ih nyebelin banget yah. Dari situ gue mulai was-was takut ketauan sm nyokap gue kalu gue nangis nonton film itu. Hahaha malu bok ;) trus gue ganti deh ke trans TV dan lagi main deh tuh si Markis Kudo and friend. Hah? Gue lupa, Markis Kudo, apa Markus Kido, apa Sinichi Kudo ya? Pokoknya itulah, kebolak-balik gua. Abistu gue ke kamar mandi, bukan nangis, tp pipis. Hehehe. Tanggung jawab yg kadangkala membuat segalanya bertahan. Hhmm. Karena yg namanya perasaan, itu ngga mutlak. Sekali lagi, Nicholas Sparks, he is brilliant!
