Before Midnight

Sunday, 9 November 2014

When I think of nothing, more often than not, there will always be a coincidence comes to attract my attention. It is like a balloon in a quiet room suddenly pops, shattering the stillness.

How often you can hear a song playing with some kind of lyrics that gives a shot in your mind unintentionally? It can be of anywhere; when I am on the platform waiting for the next train to come in, on the street trapped in a bus rushing with the traffic, or even in a car listening to the radio together with the significant other (to put it bluntly, I actually missed all these kind of things already!). I believe that there is no such a thing as containing no reason. Hurtful or pleasurable, tearful or giving another a tumble, we just need to look at these coincidences fully in the face.

It has been almost two years since I cut the fat. Yes, cut the fat and decided to withdraw from. There is no point to live in a place where your presence stimulates bad energy occurs in the others, that's it.

For two years as well, I worked with humble people, mainly for the pursuit of ideas. I worked in a place where some things that I had learned for four years that 'there is no such thing as free lunch' can be somewhat voidable.

This "Empty Chair" video reminds me of them.

Let's just raise a glass to the character of community who is out of sight but not out of mind. Guinness said that they remind us that: a true test of character is what you do when no one's looking.

Implicitly they tell us as well to not always trying to impress others or trying to look for the others' attention by telling every single details of what we do. Noted.

There is such a thing as free lunch there, literally free lunch. And that is not the only reason so that I could stay. Simply it was derived by my own anxiety; how does it can be truly appeared in the world full of flaws we live in? In the world that we ought to think confidently that human are naturally unemotional. There must be something that cannot be explained, which their so-called excellent system of a brain often assume it as irrationality.

"We're generally overconfident in our opinions and our impressions and judgments." (Daniel Kahneman)

Sometimes I think; how can we define us have already made sense while others not when all the things that we did so far is actually that kind of nonsense thing? And that is a nonsense thing we have assumed before. This confusing behaviour of human making me realized that perhaps it may always myopically clearer to see the flaws in the others than it is to see the flaws in ourselves. Or it could be just an unintentional lie, like a manifestation of their unconscious state of mind. Really really really insensible.

"There is only one difference between a madman and me. The madman thinks he is sane. I know I am mad."

To me that part is like reminiscing to some sort of a short story above by Salvador Dali called 'A Madman and Me'. However, at least hopefully I know I am mad.

Well anyway before midnight, greetings from somewhere!

Chronos and Kairos

Walking on Water

by Madeleine L'Engle

Kairos. Real time. God’s time. That time which breaks through chronos with a shock of joy, that time we do not recognize while we are experiencing it, but only afterwards, because kairos has nothing to do with chronological time. In kairos we are completely unselfconscious, and yet paradoxically far more real than we can ever be when we’re constantly checking our watches for chronological time.

The saint in contemplation, lost to self in the mind of God is in kairos. The artist at work is in kairos. The child at play, totally thrown outside herself in the game, be it building a sand castle or making a daisy chain, is in kairos. In kairos we become what we are called to be as human beings, co-creators with God, touching on the wonder of creation.

This calling should not be limited to artists, or saints, but it is a fearful calling. It is both Mana and taboo. It can destroy as well as bring into being.

In Our Town, after Emily has died in childbirth, Thornton Wilder has her ask the Stage Manager if she can return home to relive just one day. Reluctantly he allows her to do so. And she is torn by the beauty of the ordinary, and by our lack of awareness of it. She cries out to her mother, “Mama, just look at me one minute as though you really saw me… it goes so fast we don’t have time to look at one another.”

And she goes back to the graveyard and the quiet company of the others lying there, and she asks the Stage Manager “Do any human beings ever realize life while they live it?” And he sighs and says, “No. The saints and poets, maybe. They do some.”

Nothing’s 100% Fidelity, Mayang!

Tuesday, 6 December 2011

My friend told me about her quick experience,

Y: Cantik banget sihh
X: Apa sih lu

There was a guy (Y) who had a crush on her (X), perhaps not an exact crush but rather just a form of admiration, or even, having a space of interlude to flirt to, or to be more extreme, joking. Be it whatever.

For a second she was actually having a blushed-cheek yet feeling so embarrassed. But then it wouldn't mean anything though, based on the fact that he didn't really mean it or because she couldn't imagine how hurt it is to be a girlfriend of a guy who, roughly speaking, was doing some kind of flirting with (an)other god's creature, one of the illustrations, herself.

Yes, he already got a girl.

(Case closed).

Couple of days ago I had an afternoon conversation with a friend named Lia. And as the other typical girls living on earth, it's always nice to talk about relationships, feelings, or sensibility. Everything that are practically not about your story, but you just experience that you can adjust that into yours. We always find it interesting on things brilliantly touch the smallest part of our own huh?

In a nutshell she said that's normal if sometimes we simply feel bored with our partner and decide to have an interlude. So when the day comes, jusat have an interlude too for us.

For a while I couldn't agree since she was talking while driving, when all the things she said was worth of half-trusted because the rest of her 50% were left on the street. But who would place a tendency of impossible outcome on the multi-tasking probability of a girl?

H0: μ < 0.05 (Lia does not really mean of what she said)
H1: μ >= 0.05 (Lia does really mean of what she said)

What to test?

I was questioning her a lot, few times all those rebuffs in my head seeking to get out through a number of why(s).

But then I couldn't find what to reject, since the rejection region was not clearly defined, or in the other words, failed to plan a test, which means, brought thinking to an halt. That's a pre-assumption of life's choice before a destiny happens to come (t), we'll fail when we decide to stop trying (thinking). Otherwise a failure may be called as a destiny when we talk about it after what would have happened to life (t+1).

Flashing back to the topic; and then I thought maybe I was just too naive hence I couldn't accept what she said immediately. Too much drowned by hundreds of pages of Nicholas Sparks's books. Imagining that Landon Carter, Alex Wheatley, and Paul Flanner are the real human beings and not only as characters. Dreaming of a true allegiance between Noah and Allie does really exist.

Oh Mr. Sparks, why were you so damn trustworthy? Or maybe I have to turn the question; why I was so dumb and so easy to be fooled by your lovely paraphrases?

Anyone Want to Buy Me This? :)

Friday, 24 June 2011

Milanovic defies the typical image of an economist by presenting research overlaid with humor, literary insights, and fully imagined portraits of daily life as he examines inequality across time and continents. He weighs the wealth divide between Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy of Pride and Prejudice as well as Anna Karenina’s financial prospects had she married Vronsky. He ponders John Rawls, Alexis de Tocqueville, Karl Marx, Max Weber, and others to explore theories regarding the rich and the poor. Using complicated economic models that he explains very well, Milanovic breaks down incomes to make comparisons between the haves and the have-nots within nations, between nations, and among citizens of the world. He offers vignettes that make his concepts all the more accessible and entertaining as he explains the errors of Marxism and why a person’s relative wealth is determined more by their country of origin than by their family’s wealth. Milanovic writes as much like a philosopher as an economist as he ponders the growing trend of inequality in income around the world and answers questions many readers likely ask themselves about their economic prospects. Catherine of Aragon (1485 - 1536)

Tuesday, 18 May 2010

Katherine of Aragon: (to Anne and Mary)
"I am Katherine, Queen of England, the King's one true wife and mother of the heir to the throne. Beloved of the people, and beloved of a King you have bewitched."

Katherine of Aragon: (to Anne)
"Let me tell you this. You want me to lie before God, and admit my first marriage was consummated? Well, it was not. You want me to retire, and withdraw my daughter's claim as sole rightful heir to the throne? Well, I shall not. Not in a thousand years. Not if you rack me within an inch of my life. So, I hope you have the belly for a fight, Anne Boleyn, because I'll fight you, every inch of the way."

Her Life
Catherine of Aragon was born into a family of kings and queens and was destined to become one herself. She was betrothed since she was about four years old to the future king of England. She fulfilled this destiny, but became victim of Henry VIII's inability to produce a male heir. For this reason, she was removed from her throne and her marriage annulled. Although, maybe not the most memorable of Henry VIII's wives, she certainly had left a mark on history.

Catherine of Aragon had anything but a typical childhood. Catherine of Aragon was born on December 16, 1485 in Alcala de Henares, Spain. She was the daughter of Queen Isabella of Castile and mighty King Ferdinand of Aragon. Catherine was the youngest of five children, the others being Isabella, Juan, Juana, and Maria. Catherine's childhood experiences were quite fascinating. She witnessed the surrender of the Moors in Granada and Columbus' first voyage to the New World. Also Catherine was able to choose her own badge, which consisted of a pomegranate. This ends up being quite appropriate, because the fruit is hard on the outside, which symbolized Catherine's tough attitude and was soft on the inside, which symbolized fertility.

Catherine received an education typical of women in the fifteenth century. She was taught religion, housewife skills, and literacy in Spanish and Latin. She was a well-read child and she watched her parents deal with diplomatic and militaristic issues. In 1489, arrangements were made between Spain and England that betrothed Catherine of Aragon to Arthur, Prince of Wales, who was next in line to receive the English crown. This betrothal was made in order to keep the peace between two of the most powerful nations of Europe.

Tragedy struck the family in 1498 when Catherine's sister, Isabella, Queen of Portugal, died in childbirth. Although this tragedy hurt the royal family of Spain, in 1501, Catherine left Spain for England to marry Prince Arthur. They were married on November 14, 1501. The marriage was short because Arthur had died on April 2, 1502.

Her first marriage created much debate on whether or not it was consummated, because Catherine agreed to a second marriage to Arthur's brother, Henry VIII. Financial matters dealing with Catherine's dowry and King Henry VII kept the two from marrying until the king's death on April 21, 1509. Catherine and Henry VIII were married on June 11th, 1509. Henry was then crowned on June 24th, which made Catherine, Queen of England.

Catherine was very much an ideal queen. She was supportive of her husband, and like him, she enjoyed music and dance. As queen, Catherine managed the royal household, cared for Henry's linen and wardrobe, ran her own estates, and often supervised in royal business. She also took time and effort to provide the poor with money, clothes, food, and fuel in the winter. She was the only person Henry could confide to in the first few years of their marriage. For the first five years of their marriage, Catherine acted as the Spanish ambassador to England quite successfully on her own. She held off a Scottish rebellion in England while King Henry was off to war in France.

Queen Catherine bore six children, only one of whom had survived. This was Princess Mary, who would later become Queen Mary I of England also known as "Bloody Mary". The birth of her daughter, was a time of joy for Catherine, but her father, King Ferdinand of Spain had passed soon after. Henry was obsessed with producing a male heir to the throne in order to continue the Tudor dynasty. It became evident to Henry that Catherine would not be able to give him a son. Consequently, Henry tried to secure an annulment of his marriage with Catherine from Pope Clement VII. Catherine was initially given the opportunity to leave Henry VIII peacefully by living out her years in a nunnery. She chose to fight it out in the courts, which ruled against her. Had Catherine acted differently, the religious reformation would have been delayed or might not have come to England at all. The pope would not agree to the annulment so Henry decided to resolve his dilemma by having the archbishop of Canterbury declare his marriage with Catherine null and void on March 30, 1534. Henry then took Anne Boleyn as his new queen. Henry VIII had split away from the Catholic Church and formed the Church of England, and put himself as the head of the church.

Catherine lived out her life at Kimbolton, secluded from Henry and her daughter, Mary. Catherine died on January 7, 1536, at the age of fifty.

Catherine of Aragon had changed the course of history. Had it not been for her, the Protestant Reformation might not have occurred in England. Although, many might think that it was unfortunate for Catherine that Henry had their marriage annulled, it was lucky for her that she did not suffer the same fate as Anne Boleyn and Katherine Howard. And her daughter Mary, did become Queen of England.

Can't see it, but can feel it

Tuesday, 6 October 2009

"Love is always patient and kind. It is never jealous. Love is never boastful or conceted. It is never rude or selfish. It does not take pleasure in other peoples sins, but delights in the truth. It is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope, and to eudure whatever comes."

Landon: Jamie, I'm trying here, OK? Maybe... maybe I miss spending time with you. Maybe you inspire me.
Jamie: Sounds like bull.
Landon: Which part?
Jamie: All of it.
Landon: Well it's not!
Jamie: Prove it.

Jamie: [after she and Landon keep switching the radio station] Forty-two.
Landon: "Forty-two", what do you-what do you mean "forty-two"?
Jamie: Forty-two is "Befriend somebody I don't like". It's a to-do list I have.
Landon: What, like getting a new personality?
Jamie: Spend a year in the Peace Corps, make a medical discovery...
Landon: That's ambitious.
Jamie: ...Be in two places at once, get a tattoo.
Landon: What's number one?
Jamie: I'd tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.

Jamie: You’re acting like a crazy person, what's going on?
Landon: Right now, you're straddling the state line.
Jamie: OK...
Landon: You're in two places at once.

Landon: So, what's your number one?
Jamie: To marry in the church my mother grew up. It's where my parents were married.

Woohoooo, I got it finished! Hehe, finally this Pride & Prejudice closing all the books to be read at the holiday. A little bit relieve because I was so anxious of it, afraid that this would not be finished until the end of the holiday. But I also excited of the ending. Woooooooo even it's really easy to be guess, but to know that this will be come true is need a looooooooong time. Hehe. You know, I love Darcy. Yea, I guess everybody will be fascinated with Bingley than Darcy right. But I do not know I just not too interested with him. He seems too perfect and he got the perfect one, Jane, so not challenging hehe. Darcy looks terrible at the first time because people judge him from the outside about his pride, we do not know the truth about him. And Elizabeth even though her prejudice always makes her into troubles but see, in a row of the age, maturity will comes out by itself. Can not wait to watch the movie, hehe padahal filmnya udah lama bgt beredar. Be anxious to find out the hilarious Bennet Family. Yauweslah yo, see you

5 Things I Love About This Holiday

Monday, 4 August 2008

1. Become closer to my family
It's because I didn't do many things in outdoor and officially get up-eat-sleep-watching tv-eat-sleep-play computer-eat-eat-eat-back to bed. Sounds meaningless ya? But somehow I was grateful, I can easily being at home for many hours. I just want to be with my family, because I love my family much.

2. Office-ially missing Universal Music Indonesia ;')

As before, I decided to get out of this my favorite place where I can learn anything about a job at music segment because I would have an examination in my third year at school. It was kinda hard decision I guess. When I decided to get in, I was in the middle of quarter life crisis I think. Anyway, my expectation about a lifetime is about 70 ya. In that time I was really-really depressed, stressed, frustrated, or any kind of what you use to say about it. School, family, lessons, friends, projects, loves......... Ya, I wanted to calming down myself for a little breathe then. I needed a new breathe, new inspiration. So I decided to do something that my family would be disagree for a while. But finally after I gave the right explanation, they got it and believe in what I would gonna do. Every time the bell rings, I ran out of school and got ready to the office. But without forgot of all of the tasks I had to do, I learn a lot, learn to be more organized and patient to face all the problems. Simply, I realized that there must be a time for us to be BETTER. Well, in this holiday, I just came to the office and helped my friend Rani to coordinate the fans of one of the big band that labeled as Universal's in their launch album. And even it so tired to come home at the dawn, but surely it's fun. I thought that I want to come to the office now just for meet all of my friends there and Rani says that she really needs our helps. Miss you.

3. Nostalgic time
I did many reunions. And it's a common thing because me and my old friends always wanted to meet each other. In case we haven't meet for months and don't have time except in the holiday. Especially my elementary friends, they are the longest time friend I ever had until now. I am still searching for my kindergarten friends now at fs or fb, hehe because I was not here in that time. But I also meet my junior high friends (which is in the same class) and came to our class teacher. Then, I will meet my other junior high friends (different class) in some next days ;) just can not wait.

4. Book-a-boo!
Every time I woke up, I always being slept with the book under my pillow. It's because in the holiday, I get a little bad insomnia. I do not know why we always get such a trouble sleeping at the holiday and I am afraid that it will become a bad habit then. So I help it with read a book every time I go to bed. But not at all it will be sleep easily, sometimes I can read until the dawn. I just had finished A Bend in The Road, The Notebook, Benny & Mice (100 Tokoh yang Mewarnai Jakarta), and now I am still finishing Pride and Prejudice. Too hard because Jane Austen's words is not as same as Nicholas Sparks's hehehe. Because Austen is an old author which is the diction would be adapted by that time and the situation too. But better than Pearl S Buck's , This Proud Heart is really hard to be absorbed hehehe. I never got it finished.

5. Take a time to be alone
Many friends said that I became more quiet than before. My junior high friend said like that, and also my senior high friend (because she knows whyyyyyyyyy) hehehe. I do not really like to talk more like before, except the importants. But different side if I stimulated when me and my friends are laughing at jokes. And I also enjoy the time if I am alone, sometimes I watch movie by myself (*like my friend Lia does) or only just surrounding the place I visit alone.

Message in A Bottle

Thursday, 15 May 2008

One of my favourite authors. Menurut gue Sparks bener-bener brilian. Hehe. Hahaha mulai curiga gue. Jujur gue memang belum tahu secara mendalam mengenai Nicholas Sparks. Tapi karya-karya yg dia bikin selama ini baru 3 yg gue baca, setelah A Walk to Remember, trus The Notebook, dan ini Message in a Bottle yg filmnya bikin gue meneteskan air mata untuk yg kesekian kalinya menonton film ini! Haha. Eh ngga sih, baru 2 kali nonton sih hehe. Sebenernya ada satu lagi bukunya di rumah, A Bend in The Road apa kalo ga salah, kayak judulnya Boys II Men yah hehe. Pas gue liat “Based on the novel by NICHOLAS SPARKS…” wuaaaaaa! Tapi gue lupa apa. Gue mulai berspekulasi macam2 mengingat2 apa aja karyanya Sparks. A Walk to Remember? Ngga mungkin. Mana ada pesawat. The Notebook. Ahh ngga ah kayaknya. Message in a bottle. Nahh, kayaknya nih. Dan pas gue terus ngikutin nih film, bener aja, ada adegan yg sangat gue inget ketika gue pertama kali menonton, yaitu pas si Theresa lari pagi tur pelabuhan dengan baju yg berkeringat trus dia menemukan BOTOL! Hahaha. Bukan, bukan jin botol. Sangat jelas bukan kalau itu Message in a bottle? Iyalah, apalagi? Masa notebook in a bottle? Mana muat! Haha ngga lucu. Gue terus terhanyut sm tuh film sampe-sampe gue melupakan Sonny Dwi Kuncoro. Hehehe. Hahaha gampang terinspirasi! Akhirnya guna menambah stimulan akan rasa nasionalisme gue, tiap iklan, gue ganti deh tuh ke Thomas Cup. Hah? Sekarang yg gue liat si Sonny lagi unggul. Hhhff tenanglah gua. Hehe. Gue sangat suka dengan ini cerita kenapa? Karena sangat berharga banget buat diambil pelajaran. Tsssaahh. Beneran. Ckckck. Haha. Dan gue mulai berkaca-kaca pas adegan Garret berantem sm Doug, ayahnya di depan restoran. Ih gila yah, orangtua tuh emang bener-bener deh, instingnya kuat ;) dan sedih banget pas Garret lagi nolong orang di tengah laut pas dia berlayar lagi badai-badainya. Setelah itu diketahui bahwa, dia meninggal. Aaaaaahh tragis. Ih nyebelin banget yah. Dari situ gue mulai was-was takut ketauan sm nyokap gue kalu gue nangis nonton film itu. Hahaha malu bok ;) trus gue ganti deh ke trans TV dan lagi main deh tuh si Markis Kudo and friend. Hah? Gue lupa, Markis Kudo, apa Markus Kido, apa Sinichi Kudo ya? Pokoknya itulah, kebolak-balik gua. Abistu gue ke kamar mandi, bukan nangis, tp pipis. Hehehe. Tanggung jawab yg kadangkala membuat segalanya bertahan. Hhmm. Karena yg namanya perasaan, itu ngga mutlak. Sekali lagi, Nicholas Sparks, he is brilliant!
